Thirsk is a small market town, the real-life Darrowby of the 'James Herriot' books. It has a full range of facilities to act as a base for touring within the area, and has enough attractions in its own right to interest visitors.

Thirsk is ideally situated for touring the Yorkshire Dales to the west and the North York Moors to the east. There is a comprehensive network of main roads that allows access to any of the famous Yorkshire attractions as a day trip from Thirsk.

  • Pleasant local walks beside Codbeck River.

Thirsk is ideally situated for touring the Yorkshire Dales to the west and the North York Moors to the east.

  • Within half an hour - Sutton Bank, Kilburn White Horse, Helmsley Castle and Rievaulx Abbey more than fill a day out.
  • All within 40 minutes - to the west, Ripon, Knaresborough, Harrogate and Richmond are worth a visit and are gateways to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
  • Much of the North York Moors National Park is accessible within an hour's drive, including parts of the spectacular Heritage Coast, Whitby and many charming villages.
